The American Alpine Institute’s Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) program is the only comprehensive youth climbing and mountaineering program of its kind in North America. Designed for motivated teens and young adults, LOT offers the same world-class curriculum we use in our adult climbing and mountaineering programs. Students train in rock climbing, alpine mountaineering, glacier travel, ice climbing, and backcountry adventure while developing decision-making, critical thinking, and a lifelong passion for wild places.
Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience in technical mountain travel and practice judgment, risk assessment, and problem-solving in real-world situations. These lessons go beyond the mountains, teaching participants how to plan effectively, work as a team, and make sound decisions under pressure. By the end of the program, students have the confidence to take on ambitious rock climbing and mountaineering objectives and to lead, strategize, and inspire others in their personal lives, education, and future careers.
The guides and instructors at AAI are among America’s most accomplished outdoor educators and climbing instructors. Each guide is professionally trained, a Leave No Trace Level 1 Instructor, Wilderness First Responder certified, and trained in AIARE avalanche safety and rescue.
