Franklin Varela
Guides in Ecuador. Franklin has been a member of the ASEGUIM since 2005, and he serves as director of its rescue team, GRA (Grupo de Rescate ASEGUIM). He has climbed all of Ecuador’s major peaks (most by multiple routes), and he has extensive experience throughout the Andes. Amongst his most important ascents in Peru are Alpamayo, Pirámide de Garcilazo, Huascaran, and the Sphinx, the country’s largest big wall (La Esphinge), and in Argentina he has climbed the South Face of Aconcagua, one of the most challenging big alpine walls in South America.
