Many ski resorts use ski mitigation to manage avalanche hazard. Classically, this means that skiers and patrollers moving over the slopes cut up any potential avalanche hazard.
A lesser known technique is to use skis or boots or a snow groomer to impact weak layers. This is often done in a very slow and tedious way to ensure that the layers have been broken down.
The job of a patrollers in managing potential avalanche is incredibly hard. They are often up before dawn just to make sure that the people on the slope have the safest day possible.
