Update Received: May 8, 2014. 11:13pm PST. Taking advantage of the eternal daylight, Team 1 left base camp Thursday to make a single carry from Base Camp to Camp 1. This is often one of the hardest days on the trip. Making a single carry means, instead of traveling the climbing route between Base Camp and Camp 1 twice, climbers travel with all the gear and food in one day. It’s not unusual for climbers to have 70 pound backpacks and to be pulling sleds that can weigh upwards of 80 pounds.

Needless to say, salmon burgers and warm drinks were well accepted after the heavy haul up the Kahiltna Glacier.  From Camp 1, Chad passed the phone around and many members chimed in with greetings to loved ones back home.
