–KOMO News is reporting that, “Chinook Pass (SR 410) and Cayuse Pass (SR 123) will close for the winter season within Mount Rainier National Park on Friday.” To read more, click here.

–SF Gate is reporting that, “a rock climber was rescued from El Capitan in Yosemite National Park last week after falling and suffering serious injuries, park officials announced.” To read more, click here.

–Gripped is reporting that, “three BASE jumpers were convicted in federal court for illegally jumping from rock faces in Yosemite National Park, the National Park Service announced Friday. Despite the activity being banned in all national parks since the mid-1980s, reports of BASE jumping and other violations have surged during the recent government shutdown.” To read more, click here.

–Gripped is also reporting that, “Connor Herson has made the first free ascent of Triple Direct on El Capitan in Yosemite. The 30-pitch route was first climbed by Jim Bridwell and Kim Schmitz in 1969. The grade consensus as an aid route is 5.9 A2.” To read more, click here.

Desert Southwest:

–Arizona’s Family is reporting that, “A woman is recovering after a scary fall on a Prescott-area mountain Saturday morning. Yavapai County Sheriff’s Deputies and Search and Rescue teams responded to the Granite Mountain area for reports of an injured rock climber. The 30-year-old woman fell 10 to 15 feet, and crews say she had a serious leg injury.” To read more, click here.

–The National Park’s Traveler is reporting that, “Joshua Tree National Park will be able to enhance its Desert Plant Restoration Program thanks to a new grant from Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation, a federally recognized Indian tribe located on the San Manuel Indian Reservation near Highland, California. The grant offers $25,000 to support the park’s rare plant program.” To read more, click here.

Colorado and Utah:

–St. George News is reporting that, “A 58-year-old man died Sunday afternoon at the last rappel of Zion National Park’s Pine Creek Canyon. Public Affairs Specialist Matt Fink told St. George News that a 911 text referencing a “canyoneering accident” at that location was sent out at approximately 12:10 p.m., prompting a response from the National Park Service, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Utah Department of Public Safety.” To read more, click here.

–KSL.com is reporting that, “a 37-year-old man was rescued in American Fork Canyon after he was accidentally knocked off a 40 to 50 foot cliff above Little Mill Campground on Wednesday evening. Family members later identified the injured climber as Taz Wilcock.” To read more, click here.

–Climbing is reporting that, “Southern Utah climbers have battled to save the historic bouldering area of Moe’s Valley for years. Now, their work is coming to a head: Just west of St. George, near Zion National Park, a housing development could destroy access to over 430 bouldering problems.” To read more, click here.

–FOX 13 is reporting that, “An anonymous benefactor has stepped forward with an offer of a large donation to aid Zion National Park rangers after seeing a FOX 13 News story on their struggles during the government shutdown. Monday’s story focused on the Springdale community and the non-profit Zion Forever organization coming to the aid of park rangers who are working without pay or furloughed entirely. Residents and local businesses have supplied free meals and vouchers to help the rangers meet basic needs.” To read more, click here.

–Outside is reporting on folks that needed a rescue after attempting Mt. Washington. “More than 20 hikers needed to be rescued from the flanks of Mount Washington in New Hampshire after wintry conditions swept across the famed peak on Saturday, October 25.” To read more, click here.

–The Daily Montanan is reporting that there have been over 30 traffic incidents since the Parks closed: “Yellowstone National Park officials announced on Sunday that all roads within the park south of Mammoth Hot Springs would close to public access following weather-related traffic incidents.” To read more, click here.

–Gear Junkie is reporting that, “this week, Ikon Pass holders got some good news. On Oct. 21, the company announced nine new locations across Asia. Full Ikon and Ikon Base Pass holders now have access to seven new mountains in Japan, joining Niseko United and Arai Mountain Resort, which were already included on the pass. Ikon is also adding one new mountain in China and one in South Korea for a total of 11 winter destinations across Asia.” To read more, click here.
