This 6-day course is designed for backcountry skiers and splitboarders ready to take on glaciated terrain. Based in the backcountry of Mt. Baker, the clinic starts with core touring skills. Students will learn gear use, track setting, route finding, and efficient group travel. With a mix of front-country and backcountry overnight days, students then progress to winter camping, ice axe and crampon use, glacier travel, and crevasse rescue.
You’ll develop the skills needed to move through complex alpine terrain with confidence, learning to read glacial features, plan safe routes, and adapt to changing conditions. Avalanche awareness, snowpack evaluation, and rescue techniques are reviewed, making this a complete introduction to ski mountaineering in one of the Northwest’s most stunning settings.
