Train on the massive glaciers of Washington’s Mt. Baker, one of the premier glacier training grounds in the United States. This three-day program teaches essential glacier mountaineering skills, including front-pointing and French crampon techniques, ice axe positions, self-arrest, anchor placement, glacier travel procedures, crevasse rescue, and route finding. With its dramatic icefields and heavily glaciated terrain, Mt. Baker provides both a stunning alpine setting and the perfect environment to develop technical skills for glaciated peaks.
This program is perfect for climbers looking to build confidence on glaciated terrain, refine essential glacier travel techniques, and gain hands-on experience with crevasse rescue, anchor systems, and rope team travel. It’s also an excellent way to complete the prerequisite skills needed for some of our higher-level mountaineering programs. Whether your goal is to tackle your own glaciated climbs, progress to more advanced alpine objectives, or simply strengthen your technical skills, this course provides the foundation and experience needed to climb with greater competence and independence.
While this course focuses entirely on skills and does not include a summit attempt, participants receive intensive, hands-on instruction to build confidence on glacier terrain. Private summit climbs can also be arranged for climbers looking to combine training with a guided Mt. Baker ascent — contact us to discuss custom scheduling.
