Free Self-Rescue Clinics to Benefit the Las Vegas Climbing Community
February 21, 2013
Benefit Events to Raise Money for the Las Vegas Climbers Liason
Council and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search
and Rescue
At the American Alpine Institute, we love
mountains for their beauty and challenge, and
for the livelihood they provide us as guides and
teachers. Over the last fifteen years, Institute guides
have worked extensively throughout Red Rock Canyon. Each new guide
to the area has been generously welcomed by both the Las Vegas
climbing community as well as by visiting climbers. As climbing
educators, we felt that it was time for us to give back. Our guides
have long been involved in Red Rock advocacy, but we wanted to do
something more, to give something to the warm and welcoming people
in the community while continuing to promote awareness of the
social and land management issues that surround climbing in Red
Rock.
On February 21, 2013, we will offer two 2-hour
pay-what-you-can rock rescue clinics at Nevada Climbing
Center. The clinics will focus on the
baseline skills required to perform a rescue in a
high-angle environment. The proceeds from these clinics will
go directly to the Las Vegas Climbers Liason Council
(LVCLC) and the Las Vegas
Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue
(LVMPDSAR).
The clinics will run at the following times:
- 6:00 - 8:00 pm
- 8:00 - 10:00 pm
You can now register
online by clicking here. Registration is
optional, but space is limited to 12 climbers per session,
and those who register will be given
priority.

download the clinic handbook.
Once you register, we will send you an
equipment list for the class, as well as a list of
techniques that will be useful to have practiced
in advance. These clinics will be taught by
two Las Vegas based AAI guides. Both
have received their training through a combination of the
American Alpine Institute and the American Mountain Guides
Association.
